About Us

“Light of Education Foundation” is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN: 81-0853389) designed to provide underprivileged children of “Savanne du Bois,” Marigot, South-East Haiti, with relevant education and human formation. We believe that the best way to bring about a positive change in our beloved Haiti is to invest in our humanity and strengthen children's future. LOE is working closely with another nonprofit Foundation in Haiti called FLURHA ( Fondation Ludmilla Rousseau pour Haiti). On November 22, 2011, FLURHA opened a school for the abandoned, the neglected, and even the enslaved (restavèk) children of Savane Dubois, a remote area of Marigot, in the South-East of Haiti. Some of these children commute by foot seven (7) hours every day to and from school. We can't wait for them to come to us. We have the duty and the moral responsibility to bring to them the education they yearn for. They deserve relevant education as every other child in the world does. We provide the children with everything they need; they only must pay 500 HA gourdes (the US $ 10.00) per year which some of them can pay; we cover for those that cannot. With our own contribution, we can pay and give educational training to seven (7) teachers. Unfortunately, we are only able to provide the children with one (1) meal per day. We provide them with clothes, sneakers, school supplies, and sporting goods. We also organize for the children and the youth of the community an annual summer camp. The camp is held during July and August; they learn to create paintings, artwork such as BANECO. They also learn to play sports and some musical instruments. In the meantime, each year, as the number of students increases, we are in dire need of other classrooms. Needless to say, we are facing difficult challenges keeping up with our responsibilities to the teachers, the school, and the children of Savane Dubois. We truly need your precious help, without which we won't reach our goals to continue building and growing.
